Work Package 4
WP 4 regards the drafting of a design guide and the validation of the proposed approach at the structure and ensemble level. First, the practical implementation of the experimental and numerical activity of the previous WPs is summarized in a design guide. The proposed document includes recommendations for analysis and design of lattice towers, design methods for angles and closely spaced built-up members made of angles. Multiple tower configurations are modeled and analyzed, comprising a telecommunication network tower, and two transmission towers. Subsequently, a probabilistic study of the actual system safety is conducted. As a first step, all pertinent sources of uncertainty in loads, materials and geometry will be identified and their probabilistic distributions are determined based on existing literature. Detailed structural models, incorporating material/geometric nonlinearities and imperfections, are formed for each case studiy. A performance-based approach is employed for estimating the reliability level of structures subject to probabilistic climatic loading, considering concurrent wind, ice, and low temperature loads.
